will a well-maintained(frequent oil changes etc))2002 GMC 2500HD truck stop running due to a defective gas cap?

Truck was running perfectly, until I stopped for gas. Upon fueling I replaced the cap, heard a weird sound from cap, then the truck started and died...will not stay running. Fuel pump is fine, as well as the filter. All vacuum hoses are in place and truck is well-maintained. Any suggestions?

A friend of mine did the same and also thought the cap had something to do with it. We later found 'diesel' /gas mixture in the fuel tank.

If a tank is very low when gas is added, the 'settled' dust, sand and trash and moisture is stirred up to clog the strainer on the pump.

Hope this helps you. GOOD LUCK!

Try taking the gas cap off and starting. If the cap is frozen or vents are clogged the fuel may not be able to get out of the tank. If the truck runs with the filler cap off, you've either got a bad gas cap or a clog in the vent tube.

The check engine light should come on if the cap isn't sealing properly, or if it won't stay running for that matter. Can you keep the truck running by giving it gas? You didn't put diesel in it by accident did you?

A gas cap shouldn't effect on the engine's ability to start. The check engine light may come on, but it should still start. Regardless the cap must be replaced.

in a 2000 5w30 is recomended that's available that they did not fill it or maybe used a low priced oil filter out, have self belief it or not an oil filter out would be undesirable I even have had it ensue (purilator junk) i could substitute the oil back and verify out that. additionally once you alter the oil back use a quart of lucas oil therapy it quite does artwork.
