2007 Chrysler 300

I'd like to know because someone told me my tie rod ends were bad when they jacked my car up and could wiggle my front two tires easily. So I took it to chrysler and they said i needed sway bar links and my steering gear was bad but they did not mention the tie rod ends. So im wondering If the tie rod ends are a part of the steering gear. Thanks..... I know nothing about cars.

Yes, Tie rods, Steering rack and track rod ends all make up the steering gear, as well as other parts.

If there is play in the track rod ends aka Tie rods, there will be play, Its not to pricey to change and relativly simple. Basicly thats all there is to cause this problem. Unless the rack its self is faulty but thats rare!

It is very posible that they are trying to rip you off,,,, You have to kinds of tie rod's,,, A inner tie rod,, And a outer tie rod,,,They are both conected to the steering gear. Which is also known as the rack and pinion Some dealer ships recomend replacing the whole unit instead of just fixing the part's that are bad,,The reason for this is it pay the technision more to replace the whole thing,,, I recomend you take it to a smaller shop or a difrent dealer ,, And see if they tell you the same thing,, If they dont then you will know,,And make sure they realign the vehicle after they do the work by asking for a print out of the alignment,,, Just a thought this car is only a year old,,stearing gear's genarly dont go bad in that amount of time,,, Though it is posible but not likely

Your Chrysler 300 is fitted with power assisted rack and pinion steering, you dont technically have a steering gear. You can easily tell if your rack and pinion is bad, does it feel any different, sound any different, or leak anything different than when you first got the car? If not, you're probably fine on your rack and pinion. the tie rod are basically the rods that connect your rack and pinion to the wheels of your car. tie rod ends are ball and socket joints, these are what wear out and go bad. from the sound of things, sway bar links are either ball and socket joints, or rubber bushing joints. Neither of these should be too difficult or expensive to fix/have fixed but I'd be wary of the steering gear, unless you can specifically identify something different about your steering like i said before. hope i helped =D

Sway bar links do wear out,as fast as 40,000 miles.Tie rod ends are very important and worn ones can fall apart and cause a serious loss of control and even your death.Steering gear would be where the end of the steering wheel shaft connects to steering arm controls sometimes called rack and pinion gears, there is also something called a spindle but these should last a lot longer.get it fixed, but ask another qualified technician for a second estimate-quickly.wiggling front tires usually show bad ball joints.Maintaining front ends is costly but crucial part of your vehicle.Drive safe dear.

there are two ways to buy a steering gear also called a steering rack....one way is called a short rack (the outer tie rod ends do not come with this unit and u use the ones from the old rack..and a full rack the outer tie rod ends come with the full rack....also there is an inner and a outer tie rod end....sway bar links we can understand they are a wear item. ...but... a rack already bad on a 1 year old car...isn't this a warranty item ? do some investigation be fore anybody does anything to your car......

STEERING GEAR IS OFTEN MISTAKING, ITS CALLED A GEARBOX, AND I REALLY DOUBT THAT IS BAD ALREADY! TAKE IT ELSE WHERE AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY. EVEN THE TIE-RODS SHOULD'NT BE BAD ALREADY UNLESS YOU HAVE HIGH- MILES ! IF BOTH TIRES ARE OFF THE GROUND THE WIGGLE COULD BE BEARINGS, GET ANOTHER OPINION-O.K!
