Question:
2002 Volvo V40 (Near side) Headlight bulb will not illuminate?

This affects the "near-side" (left) of my vehicle.

Initially I thought the headlight bulb (two pin H7) had blown

Replaced bulb - still no light

Replaced replacement bulb with "known good" bulb - still no light

Checked Fuse - OK (replaced with "known good")

Tested bulb socket (using multi tester) - power = 12.5 v, earth = good (0 ohms)

Tested Headlight Unit earth connection = Good

All other lights located in the same headlight unit - (i.e. daytime running lights / high beam) are working perfectly satisfactorily. All the lights on the other side are working. High beam still works both sides. Beam adjustment motors work fine (and in sync) both sides.

All other electrical systems working exactly as they should.

Curiously I do not get a failed bulb indication on the dash warning system (well, I suppose it isn't !).

Any thoughts / advice appreciated.

Many thanks.

If you have power to the socket it is going to be issue between the socket and the bulb.

Check the socket for damage - I've seen one that was distorted after the wrong bulb type was forced into it, and had to be squeezed back into shape. Check for corrosion, especially on the contact points. If there is any, use some fine emery paper and a screwdriver to gently remove it.

Lastly, try adding a little bit of folded silver foil to the base of the bulb to get a better connection. A small square about the size of the holder pushed right to the bottom sometimes works just to bridge the gap.

Ok so you got power when switch is switched on.. but no light.. and the ground is connected. by the way its not measured in ohms.. its the '|' sign..whern multi meter show a one and numbers goes up the when the two cables from multi voltage meter connect .. try it with one connector in ground side and engine/frame/neg battery .. ground... numbers should move up. If you dont get it ... youtube.com how to use a multi voltage meter videos. but if thers ground and with switch you got power it should work. some dont work when another bulb is bad..... hmm????
