94z28. It's in tip top shape. Within the past month I replaced, belt, water pump, coil, cap distributor, rotator, and spark plugs. No leaks. Has 145,000 miles. The engine sounds extremely old. Is this normal or is something wrong? It sounds kind of like a high pitch grinding noise. Made a quick video so you know what I mean. thx

You could have opened hood, Sounds like a bad bearing possible alternator, Obviously sounds like something run by belt. If you have 1 serp. belt remove and check pulleys by hand for roughness, make sure you check tensioner pulley.Only other option is take a short piece of hose and put to ear and listen at all pulleys to find noisy one, engine running. just don't get hose tangled up in moving parts. Could also be timing chain noise or defective water pump.

To start, try getting a tube and listening to different parts of the engine to hear the estimated area of the sound (use the tube as a directional sound funnel), then you can find roughly where to look. It could very well be something on the pulleys not working correctly like a bearing needing to be replaced (maybe the alternator, or powersteering pump). Make sure your oil pump is working correctly and you are getting oil everywhere it could be the sound of to little oil in some areas of the engine.

If you drive the car or rev the engine up do you hear a whinning noise that almost sounds like a supercharger whine? If so, your powersteering pump needs to be replaced (i think i heard some whinning) and it could also be the noise you are hearing.

I don't hear a high pitched grinding noise. Something does sound noisy though. Gonna be hard to diagnose without being there. Is everything working okay? Power steering pump, or pulleys / belts?

Well, first thing to do would be to recheck everything you recently replaced. Check your vacuum lines. If everything looks good, you need to isolate everything driven by a pulley. Narrow down the possibilities till you find the culprit.

First issues first. i've got seen dozens of latest SS's on the music and...they sound gutless. no longer staggering then, that they are slower than my 12 year old cobra...and sound it as nicely. As for overall performance, the Camaro is soundly dealt with via the '11 mustang GT... Camaro: 4300lbs with motive force, 428hp. it is 10.04lbs/hp. '11 Gt mustang: 3600lbs with motive force, 412hp. it is 8.737lbs/hp. At over a mile severe, a million/4 mile ETs are lots slower than in magazines. With that mentioned, right this is what i've got witnessed. each and every 6 velocity instruction manual Camaro SS i've got seen, with a pair exceptions (they have been lots slower), ran between a 15.0-15.3 a million/4 mile time, at around 97mph. The couple '11 GT's i've got seen, one develop into changed, one wasn't. The changed one purely had slicks. The inventory one ran a 14.2@104. The Slicks one went 13.60@one 0 five. I run 14.90s@ninety 5 in a oftentimes inventory ninety 8 cobra. that's a 305hp cobra, for those preserving music. My vehicle weighs 3530lbs with me in it. it is 11.57lb/hp. That tells me 2 issues. a million. Camaro vendors can't tension. 2. Camaros can't hire the capability they make. yet, purchase what you go with. If that's purely approximately overall performance, get a mustang GT, and function relaxing exhibiting your back lights to each (actually) Camaro SS you come for the period of. ideal i've got seen from a inventory '11 GT in magazines is a 12.40 5. ideal i've got seen from a Camaro SS is 13.10. that may no longer even close.

sounds like a failing idler to me. pull the belt back off nad spin all of the pulleys, if one drags, replace it.
