If the ASR light is the ONLY light on then im leaning towards wheel speed sensors.. This light can trigger for many reasons. its main one when the car is properly running to warn you that you are losing traction or wheels are slipping. The car only knows this through the sensors so other things could be fooling the car into thinking the wheels are slipping.. improper tire pressure or size, worn or dirty sensor or a failure in the module itself. if other lights appear like the e-brake light then she needs new brake pads. work your way backwards pull the positive cable off the battery let it sit for 30 minutes..check the tires and tire pressure first thats easy drive it around a bit then see what happens. if the light pops back on it isnt the tires themselves next would be to unplug one or two of the sensors see if you pull a check engine light if not its the sensors if so then it isnt the sensors.. then back to the module or brains of the traction control..

Fault in the traction control system. It will have disabled itself, but it's still safe to drive until she can get it checked.
Just drive carefully as it will be much easier to loose traction in snow. loose gravel or wet road.

The ASR light is your traction control. It is ASR in some German cars, for the German acronym equivalent of tcs. Either it's kicking in because you were starting to loose traction, or its permanently on to warn you that the system is not on or not working properly.
