I've just bought an old 1993 Magna (auto) and I'm finding that when I shift gears to D, the entire car shakes, I can't keep my hand on the steering wheel coz the car shakes so much?! The shaking stops (or nearly stops) when I shift gears to P or R

I don't know much about cars so was just wondering if the problem is major and what I can do to fix it... The car's a bit jumpy on the road as well but I'm not too sure if that's related

Help!!!

Kinda need a little more information. Is it just when accelerating, or also when idling, like at a light? Does it only do it at a certain rpm or speed, or when applying brakes? Or is this only happening at an idle?

If this is only occurring when the car is in drive but you are not moving, double check the spark plug wires to make sure they are on securely. Also check the spark plugs for a cracked or broken one and check to see that no vacuum lines were knocked off during a tune-up.

Otherwise, you may have a broken engine or transmission mount, so have that checked if the spark plugs, wires and hoses look ok.

I doubt it would be the tires because the shaking would be more likely to occur at speeds between 55 and 75 mph.

If this is only occurring while the car is moving, it could also be a broken strut.

I tend to think your problem is a spark plug issue or the spark plug wires or an engine/transmission mount.

Good luck to you!

I think that the global warming alarmists are very happy about the enema being given to the people by the political hacks whom they have worked over the coals for so many years. Disinformation on their part will raise taxes on all types of consumption. The door now has been open because the definitions put out by these frauds has been bought by the public. They can now tax us on anything and everything that emits CO2 either from burning or decomposition in some junk yard, or land fill. The people in the UK know this well, now they are fighting mad. American’s will find out what the real meaning of global warming is when the temperature drops, but in no way will this deter the Government’s of the planet to cut taxes on carbon emissions.

i think engine/gear mounts are damaged. you will need to replace them. i don't think it is a problem with your transmission.

first get your mounts checked by a technician. when mounts are damaged it is common to show a huge vibration in drive/Low and Reverse gears.

hope this helps.

Sounds like a tranny is going out. Sorry.

Have it checked at a transmission shop.
