Question:
Starting problems with a 96 Buick Park Avenue?
2013-07-06 11:04:20 UTC
I'm having problems starting my 1996 Buick Park Avenue 3.8L (not the Ultra model). I know its not the fuel pump, battery, the connections to my battery from the alternator, or the alternator itself. I bought a new starter from Auto Zone about 8-9 months ago so I don't know for sure if its that or the cylinoid. Does anyone know what it might be and how I can check if something has gone bad or not??

You never said whether it turns over or not which is a basic need to know item for someone trying to answer this question. From reading it though it sounds like it doesn't turn over. I would check the connections at the starter to make sure nothing is loose, then I would just go ahead & buy a new starter relay.

Manual transmissions will have a clutch switch above the clutch pedal & sometimes that will go out or need adjustment. However, I think the car should still turn over. It just won't have any fire for the plugs. This clutch switch is to ensure that people don't try to start the car in gear without the clutch depressed.

Automatic transmissions probably have a switch too that will prevent it from starting if it's not in neutral or park.
