I have a 1996 Nissan 200SX with about 130k miles on it. Please answer my 6 quick questions to help me decide.

-Is it a good idea for an old car like mine to suddenly start using synthetic oil?

-How much longer (both time and mileage wise) does synthetic oil last with normal car use?

-If you don't have to change the synthetic oil for 1 year or 12k miles (not sure if this is true), then would that go for the oil
filter as well, or would you have to still change the oil filter every 3k months?

-If there are oil filters that last as long as synthetic oils, what are they?

-Pepboys uses an oil filter called ProLine Oil Filter with their synthetic oil. Do ProLine Oil Filters last as long as synthetic oils?

-How much does a synthetic oil change cost?

synthetic oil is still changed at the same intervals as conventional oil

synthetic oil is way overpriced and doesnt have any real big improvements over conventional oil

the chances of you getting an oil leak arent that great

do you regularly change your oil? thats all thats really important

oil filters are all basically the same, the only one that i stay away from are Fram because theyre so cheap and made of cardboard.

synthetic oil is thinner than conventional oil even if its the same grade, so your gonna burn some oil for the first couple oil changes. and thats something your gonna have to think about, are u gonna stick with synthetic or switch between whatevers cheap?

go for a synthetic conventional blend, its priced in between and itll give you benefits from both of them

with that old of car it wouldnt hurt or help it really and its that synthetic oil will not break down as fast as the other type of oil .. it dont mean you should run it any longer just that you could do it stil need to be change about every 3 to 5000 miles like all other oils and oil filters are oil filters everyone will say theres are better than the other guys brand when any name brand is fine is like nine bucks a quarts like double the price over the other and dont of the oils should be run a year or 12, miles ..Pepboys uses an oil filter called ProLine Oil Filter isnothing but a store brand type filter is one they use on all cars some yanking your chain...synthetic oils are better and do last longer but stil need s to be change every few months just like the other it cost more than double or about it and it wil save the life of any car but it dont repair old or wore out and i been using it since it came out on market and no one can tel you how great it is until you take aprts a motor and see the inside of one that has run nothing but it for a life time of running can only go by what a company says it does or dont do

Yes as it helps the engine last longer but is more expensive but once you go synthetic, you cant change back or youll blow out your seals inside engine but you can also go over twice as long between oil changes too. Its a great choice if you can afford it

Synthetic oil is a good thing but in a high mileage, older car it may produce oil leaks because it is a smaller molecule.
