It could be so many things. An intermittent problem like this is the hardest to diagnose because it can't be reliably duplicated. But, if you have a check engien light on, have the codes read. It may point you in the right direction. From my experience, the most common problem with GM engines when it comes to this scenario is the crankshaft postition sensor. The problem starts as an occasional stutter. Then it progresses to completely shuttign off the engine. Once you crank the engine again, it starts right back up. Then it becomes more frequent. There are many GM technical service bulletins on this and it has happened to me on 2 GM trucks I've owned in the past.

Outside of that... could be many many many tihings.

Start by power washing your engine bay with GUNK orange, focusing on your battery and cables at BOTH ends of connection. Changes in current flow many times cause problems and premature wear of expensive engine modules. Once the engine is cleaned, you can more easily follow wiring harnesses. I usually clean them all with Electric Motor Spray or Brake cleaner spray. Try to see any and all electrical connectors on the engine, and disconnect them and reconnect them. Many times small amounts of corrosion appear over time that create unwanted resistances that a simple amount of friction will restore. On some models, the crank sensor gets finicky from excess engine heat. Cleaning things up will help immeasurably. GOOD LUCK!!

ok here it is . you have a problem with eather a fuel relay this will caust the car to stumble loose power and die or a Spark Control Module with is it gos out the car dies and you have to let it sit for a bit to start it up again then you drive till it heats up again and boom dies again. there might also be a ECM Relay that is bad and this would cause the car to shut off. what you can do it have the car scanned and monst auto parts stores have a scanner that they will use on your car so you can get the part.
