Mounting a tire....what does it mean?

I have four good tires on my SUV, but I wanted to buy a fifth (just in case one goes flat). If I buy a fifth tire, do I have to get it mounted? I don't want to replace one of the four tires that are already on my SUV, I just want this fifth tire in my trunk. I don't really know what mounted means.

mounting means just what it says. You spread you legs a little, straddle the tire and well...



No lol! mounting a tire means you put it on the rim, check the balance and air it up. So if you want this tire to be ready and waiting in your truck then yes, you want it mounted on your spare rim.

All that is covered is the physical act of pulling the old tire off if the rim and the installation of the new tire. Balance should be part of the package but read the paperwork. Getting rid of the waste tire is something that the shop pays for so you will be helping with that part. The work order will list all that is covered and what else you will be paying for.

Mounting is putting the tire on a wheel. It'll also have to be balanced.

Mounted basically means that they will install it onto your rim. Seeing that you just want the tire by itself, you don't need to get it mounted. If you want it for your spare rim, then you are gonna have to get it mounted, but if its just the tire you want, you should be fine. you'll just be paying for the cost of the tire by itself.
