When driving into work today, my 2005 Ford Five Hundred went into a "failsafe engine mode" the wrench light was on and the display said failsafe engine mode. I was able to drive 70 mph on the highway but the transmission felt like it was slipping in and out of gear during acceleration. Has anyone had this problem?

Your computer has detected anomalies in the engine and transmission and has went in to fail safe mode meaning you have limited gear selection so the wrench means get it to a shop fast or you will be towing it to be repaired. Do not drive it unless you want to destroy the engine or transmission. And for sure don't drive it at 70. It could be something as simple as a filter and oil change but only a mechanic will be able to determine that for sure.

Limp mode (FAILSAFE MODE) initiates when the engine pc(s) be aware a challenge that can reason critical harm to the engine or electrical accessories. The auto engages limp mode and will not go into better gears as a protective measure. My Mercedes SLK230 did the same thing; the vendor demonstrated the auto and advised me there was nothing that could be performed and that I must promote the auto ASAP. I took the automobile residence, unfolded the computer beneath the passenger aspect floor board and located that the male-female connectors were not thoroughly seated (some days the vehicle drove good and different instances i'd have this drawback, which just about resulted in a few accidents on the freeway). I pushed within the laptop connectors and the automobile has been high-quality ever considering (2 years now). As a consequence, examine your computers to look you probably have a loose connection(s).
