Hi guys.
I have a Ford Fiesta 1.245cc. X registration.

I have noticed recently, when my engine is cold, stopping 20 seconds after i get the car going, the revs will drop well below idle, and has before stalled.

I never used to look at my rev counter, until the day my car stalled, and it took a few days to see the problem, it definitely drops when depressing the clutch at a stop, I have no idea if i should get it looked at, or what it is that causing this?
it had a full service a month ago and they fitted new plugs, as the car was new to me then.
It do sent drop when my engine seems to be warm after a few minutes or less.
Any ideas.
?
Thank you

The idle air control valve is at fault, if you remove it and clean it up that sometimes is enough to cure the problem, if not, you will need to replace it

Symptom of worn thrust washers on the crankshaft. When you press the clutch it moves the crankshaft along a bit and starts to wedge the pistons in the bores. Quite likely on an X-er. Engine rebuild to fix unfortunately

pay attention next time you get in the car and see if it grinds at all while putting it in gear from Neutral while being at a complete stop. if it does, you may need some clutch fluid or your pressure plates(which are the heart of the clutch) are just worn out.

maximum fords try this ingredient while the engine is chilly they immediately rev them selves around the a million,500 rpm and could drop gradually to with reference to the 1000rmp mark while the is warming up,wish this helped.

Sounds like clutch is not disengaging all the way. Adjust cable or check fluid and or leak if hydraulic. Don't remember on a Festiva.

Hey Adam M!

If the RPM dip is slight, it may be normal, but the best way to make sure is to ask the experts. Your local Ford dealer will be able to inspect your Fiesta and ease your worries. The clutch is dragging (may need adjustment) or is breaking up, or the release bearing is seizing.
