Question:
What can I use good a severe Transmission seal leak?
2016-03-22 17:17:45 UTC
The old Hyundai Accent leaks like crazy. The transmission seals are worn out. I've tried Lucas stop leak, Tranny honey, Blue devil and most other otcs. Is there anything out there that I am missing? Also, what is good for a minor motor oil leak?

Transmission Seal Leak

Do you know where it is leaking from on the transmission? My advice is to simply repair whatever is broken. Find out if it is a pan leak, torque converter seal leak, rear main seal leak, transmission hoses/ line leak, etc.... I would stop wasting money on those additives. Sounds like the leak is to extensive to fix with additives or stop leak stuff. I've personally never seen those things work to well. In most my cases they just caused internal damge then in any good. With any leak for now on in the future. Just find the source and try to fix whatever problem it is having. But I would use addivtives for my fuel and oil systems. The cleaner those are the better. ;-) Those additives I've never had a problem with. ;]

NEVER use any product made by Lucas because they DO NOT work. Now that you have, all other "fix-in-a-bottle" cures will not work unless you do a transmission flush first. I use AT-205 to fix leaking seals (if that is the problem) with great results for automatics, power steering and floor jacks. Not available at Walmart or most auto parts stores. I bought mine off the internet. (see Scotty Kilmer video on Youtube). Next time, do your research BEFORE making a mistake.

Your problem is the actual seal is simply worn out. The rubber has cracked and perished, and lets oil leak out.

The various stop leak products are designed to react with the rubber seals, make them swell up and seal again. Sometimes this will temporarily slow down the leak. But once you have done this, it's not going to work again next time.

No "Mechanic in a Can" is going to fix this problem. You need a real mechanic, with some spanners and a couple of new seals.

The most common leaks for an automatic transmission are the cooler lines. They need replacing before the blow completely and fry the transmission. No additive you put in the transmission or motor will stop a leak! You're just wasting your money.

The only thing you can do with a severe leak is replace the seal. Those fluids only work on a minor leak.

There is nothing good for a severe transmission leak, or even a minor one. The actual problem has to be fixed.

I would most likely just replace the seal. I had good luck out of bars leak! It's relatively cheap like $6. I had a very minor oil leak and it fixed it.

You can try bars leaks transmission repair. It won't perminately fix the leak, but it might make it to where you can get around with it until you have time to get it fixed.

I have a novel idea. Change the leaking seal!

You have tried the snake oils and found they have not worked. You probably will need to dismantle the transmission as necessary and renew the seals.

I am sorry ,but there is nothing out there that will help your situation , either way you look at it ,the only way to fix it is to replace the seals and or gaskets .Your trans will fail faster from lack of lubrication thats the number one cause of trans failures

Replacing the gaskets is the only way to do it right.
