Hex keys are hexagonal and torx are star shaped. Hex keys can be metric or SAE, but all torx are metric.

Allen and Hex are the same, six sided. Make sure you get the right size as some imperial sizes are almost a fit in metric and vice-versa. The keys are generally softer than the screw heads so the end of a key damages easily, especially if not quite the right fit. If the bolt is tight don't use a pipe end on the key, that will bend it

Yes hex and allen keys are the same, generally you wont find a 7mm one in a set this was a special size introduced in the 1980's when manufacturers started to use fasteners that the averag diy person wouldnt have at home hence trying to force the motorist to go to the local dealer, however your local motorist accessories shop should stock them

A hex key is a six sided shape like a stop sign,

A torx is more shaped like a star, it still has six sides but the points are more elongated to give it the star shape

try the sears craftsman website and you might get a picture of one

A hex key is just that, its made like a hexagon (six flat sides)

A Torx wrench is more like a six pointed gear.

well, you know what a hex key looks like. a torx key is somewhat star shaped, but with quite a few points on it....they can be bought at any hardware store or auto parts store

You can get a torx key set for a few buck from any hardware place. There are a lot of things that use them, so they're worth having.

You might run into a torx screw with a pin in the middle that keeps you from using the torx bit. Then you have to get a set of security bits. It will have all the oddball bits that they use to keep people out of things.

If you have a set of tiny flat bladed screwdrivers, they can usually get a torx screw out.

A "hex key" has six contact surfaces (a.k.a. an allen wrench).

A "torx key" is a 6 pointed star pattern (a.k.a. star screwdriver)

No .Hex is the same as allen wrenches. Some people call Torx bits 'star drivers', or star bits.

no it's not the same, the openings cut into the screw are totally differen't for torx than hex.

A "hex" is six-sided. A "torx" is a modified cross shape. They are not compatible.
