My tail lights and dash doesnt work 93 civic?

Question

I just bought a car and the dash only works when i turn the fog lights on. When I turn it to the head lights the dash no longer works and the tail lights/liscence lights dont work. Ive tried replacing the fuses under the dash and hood but did nothing. The bulbs are burnt out neither. The guy had an automatic dash in when the cars a manual, so I got the old dash from him and put that in but also did nothing. The previous owner had an alarm system and power locks put in and theres a million wires under the dash and have no clue whats what down there. Is there any chance it could just be the light switch or something worse?

you,ll need an electrical shop to check this one out its hard telling what he has done to it that could affect the lights on it,obviously he has got something crossed or has something wired up wrong on it,id get it checked out soon though what ever it is could cause more problems later on with it,good luck

if there was an alarm sys in @ 1 time & it's been removed and you have changed the dash out then there r about 4 katrillion wires that have been messed with if you know how to read a schematic( wiring diagram ) you should start with the dash light wiring from the sound of it thats what you need to do otherwise you should take it to the shop. not the local redneck fixin booth, a well respected auto repair facility im pretty good with automobile electrical sys and id probally take it to the shop if i couldnt figure it out in a day or 2 but id be willing to bet you have a hot wire cut from the headlight side of the light switch to the dash lights you need a schematicthath what happens when people mess with stuff they know nothing about sorry but it sucks to be you

One big problem with older Honda's is that there tends to be a collection of deposits around the throttle plate, causing the idle to drop. If you look at the RPM and it is not at 700 or 800 then you know that you have an idle problem. All it takes to correct it is to get some carb cleaner and hold the throttle plate open and clean around the butterfly. It is also good to spray the cleaner on a rag and stick you finger in where the throttle plate is and kind of scrub it with a rag. This usually frees up any carbon deposits around the throttle plate. If you do this repair you might have a hard time restarting the engine becasue of all the cleaner in the intake. Hold the gas pedal to the floor and spin the engine over, once it gets going, rev it up and down to blow all the cleaner out of the engine. There are a couple of other things that can casue it to stall 1) in need of a tune up- worn spark plugs 2) a vacuum leak 3) a dirty screen on the fast idle valve If none of these help (which they should) have a Honda Technician look at it

its possible that through the alarm system that the lights are somehow wired into the actual lights and possibly dash lights and that wire could be shorted or loose
