i have a Y reg renault scenic and last saturday the engine management light came on for no reason and i was wondering what this meant.
Also my battery went flat and now my radio has gone off and i dont have the code ... is there a normal standard factory code that i could use to get it back on again, or will i have to pay to get it decoded

Unfortunately, there are a number of reasons that could cause the engine warning light to come on, some minnor others more serious, but the only way to find out is to have it looked at by someone who knows what to look for or has a Renault diag. comp. i.e. dealership

And as for the radio code you will most likely have to take it to the dealership. They get it from your chassis number and there is only one no universal code, sorry.

The management light did come on for a reason, it's detected there is a problem, that's what it's there for. The fact that your battery "went flat" is almost certainly something to do with it. The radio code will disappear if this happens.

I'd go either to a dealer or a vehicle electrician, who should be able to deal with all three problems.

You will have to visit a Renault dealer and take your VRD (Vehicle Regisration Document) with you for proof that you are the owner of the vehicle. They will then contact Renault for the code. This does come at a price though, you need to find out how much.

sorry to be a pain but can you describe the symbol that lit up....was it a 'battery' or was it an 'engine shape with a lightening flash on it'...the radio code is usually a four digit number..it may be in the handbook..that came with the radio..

If the battery went flat, then unfortunately you will have to go to your local Renault garage to ask them for the code.

The best thing to do withe the light is to ask them to put it on there diagnostic machine to see if there is a problem.

maybe the ECM is knackered, one on my car went.. you need to get it reconditioned or a new one.. recon for my old car was £150.. the new unit was £450..

BUT it might be your lamda sensor , which is ruffly £60-100

you need to get it checked out by a mechanic, if the light came on it normally gives you 30-60 miles to get home and get it sorted.. it might have shut down the car to protect it, which is what it sounds like.. and you should have brought it to a garage if you could as if the light has been coming on for a while, you should have noticed it.

You'll have to go have it diagnosed unless you know someone who has there own machine.. They thend to charge about $99 some places will do it for free if you get the work done at there place...

oh dear, sorry there is no standard code, you need to take it to the most expensive place of all...the main dealer...hope you got money, they'll turn off your engine management light too.....for a price.....evil bastards they are

If you have the owners manual, the previous owner may have written the code in somewhere.
