Key off means no spark in a gas engine and no fuel in a diesel , and no there will be no air lock as the valves still work and air is still compressed. Very simple system to understand.

that is how it is designed. if it is a gas engine, the spark is lost due to a lack of power to the ignition coil. if it is a diesel, then the fuel is stopped and the engine stops due to that.

HI

When you turn the key to off it disconnects the power supply to the ignition system, which supplies power to the plugs (spark or glow) and the power to any accessories, fuel pump, fan's ETC.

hopes this answers your question

good luck
