I have an 03 Olds Alero with 170,000 miles (yes i know that's a lot) and after recent service (an oil change and tire rotation) my service vehile soon, trac off and anti lock lights come on periodically. I have only noticed it in the mornings when I am on my way to work....usually dew in the morning so it leads me to believe its moisture related? It kinda pisses me off that it just started happening after they worked on my car.... Anyone have an idea what it could be??? I've read a few other things online saying wheel berrings but they checked those when I had my tires rotated and said they were ok....I do need rear brakes but I know the sensors that deal with these lights are in front so I don't think that would be the problem.....thanks in advance (I plan on taking my car back to these geniuses when I get time, just looking for some answers in the meantime)

Where did you have your tires rotated? I'm asking because unless this place has extensive experience working on alero's; I'd be reluctant to take their advice on anything other than maybe an oil change and a tire rotation..... Actually I do these as well as my brakes and most other r/r work myself; this way I know exactly what was done and how and I know that all of my crucial bolts are torqued within specs. Your problem most likely is the abs wiring harness where it connects to the hub. Are you still running on factory hubs? Your center bolt will appear to have a piece of sheet metal formed onto it, as opposed to seeing an actual bolt on the wheel end of your cv joint. If you are still running with the factory bearings than you should consider getting the timken replacement wheel bearings; this was among the many recalls for the alero line; apparently the factory piece had some known issues with the abs wiring harness and a higher than usual failure rate. I went through this myself a few weeks back with my 2001 alero 128k miles. But I'll tell you what, even after buying everything I needed to do the job right and getting the new bearings on there and torqued up to specs; those dam lights still came on every now and again....... Here's where the story takes an interesting turn........ The clip that attaches the abs wheel sensor to the piece of sheet metal inserted on the engine side of the bearing must be specifically clipped into position and held fast.... If it is allowed to move even a little it will trigger your trac sensor which will in turn shut down your abs and be read as a service vehicle soon code...

If you do go with the timkens see if you can't get them online first, they cost about $117.00 each at auto zone.

There are sensors on all four wheels for the anti-lock.

If the tires are better inflated than they were, they might bounce more and trigger ABS light.

If it happens when you accelerate over bumps it's normal.

Apply and fully release the emergency brake, so it's switch is actuated.

If that switch sees the e-brake is applied it lights the lights.

Service engine soon may be something else entirely.

Maybe the geniuses were smart enough to sabotage your engine so you would come back.

But I doubt it.

You need to find out which front sensor is bad and replace the sensor which general motors so kindly integrated into the wheel bearing so you have to buy the whole thing costing almost 300 for the part alone not including the 1-2 hours to install it. Thank GM for making it more expensive for you Even the older Honda has the sensor seperate fromt the bearing so in the same situation the sensor costs 30 bucks and about 15mins to install GM professional engineering!!! NOT!!
