A good move: This should be done every 36,000 miles on your car. Replace the filter at the same time.

You'll need 5.5 litres of ATF, and a filter is £9 from http://gsfcarparts.com/

It should be self explanatory, but if you're stuck I'd suggest you invest in a Haynes manual (No.3511 covers your car)

Your car is the W202 model with the 722.6 gearbox. If you change the oil in the gearbox and Torque converter you will need 7 litres of ATF (I only use genuine Mercedes branded oil @ about £11 per litre) you will, as already advised, need a new filter and rubber type gasket (take care when removing the sump bolts as they can break off). On your model there is a drain plug fitted to the torque converter, turn the engine over by hand and the drain plug can be found at the bottom of the converter housing.

Your car has an automatic transmission not a standard gear-box type. I would suggest you take the car to any new car dealer to have what ever oil changed you're talking about.

If you want to change the engine crankcase oil you'll need a pair of plastic ramps from Walmart or any auto parts store, metric combination wrenches for the oil drain plug, cap-style oil filter wrench, 3/8 wratchet, 3/8 extensions, motor oil and oil filter. The hand book in your glove compartment will tell you what oil filter and engine oil viscosity is best for your car.

Drain the oil (there is a drain plug on the transmission oil pan to make it easier) and then drop the pan after to remove the filter. Don't try to reuse the gasket. Buy a new one to prevent leaks.

If you're draining just the oil from from the pan, you'll need 4 litres but if you're flushing the transmission, including draining the torque converter, you'll need between 8 to 9 litres of oil.

This does not seem right. I am on my 3rd C class (220cdi) Auto. Could it be you are just not used to the car? Merc auto boxes are usually excellent - I would not have a manual. How does the car drive if you 'override' the auto box- ie manual mode? Make sure the fluid level is correct. Other than that. Take it to an independent Merc specialist (Not a main dealer , unless you want ripping off) and let him drive it. He will soon tell you if there is a problem. Good Luck !

it is a simple job but do not do it when the gearbox is at running temperature as the oil is nearly at boiling point and it will burn you do it when it is cool ,
