First, I doubt you're running it "pure" since there would be no way to get out the gallon or so of water and coolant that would still be in there if you drained the system. Most of the people here don't know what they're talking about. Running pure coolant won't hurt anything, it just won't be quite as effective. Recommended ratio is 50-70%.

If the coolant is boiling in the overflow then it isnt cooling down obviously.. Do you have a electric fan motor on that car or is it a clutch fan ? If its eletric turn on A/C with the engine on obviously and pop the hood and see if the fan comes on.. If it doesnt come on after a minute or so keep waiting and if it still doesnt come on then you have either have a bad fan motor, a bad fan relay, or a bad fan sensor/switch. If its a clutch fan then the fan is powerd by the belt and is screwd into the waterpump.. Overtime the clutch fans go bad and dont blow as much air as they used too and it should be replaced.. To check if the clutch fan is bad.. Turn the car off.. and grab the fan blade and spin it.. It should spin like once maybe and then stop.. If it just spins and spins then the clutch is bad and it needs replaced. Also a bad waterpump can cause overheating as well.. Sometimes depending on the coolant you used and if the coolant was never replaced every 2-3 years the alluminum blades will be basicly eating alive from corrosion and that will keep the coolant from circulating in the engine and radiator correctly.. or at all. Take the radiator cap off when the car is cool, and start the engine and rev it to like 2500 rpm and see if the coolant overflows or not. If it doesnt move around and overflow the waterpump is bad. If it does the waterpump should be good.. Also another thing you should do is bleed all the air out of your system.. Turn the car on with the radiator cap off and let the engine idle to 210f operating temp.. Then rev the engine to like 2,000 rpm and have someone with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze pour some in the radiator hole and keep doing so until you stop see'ing bubbles come out and you can no longer fill it up. Just make sure you keep an eye on the engine temp if it starts to go above 220f stop. This is why coolant needs to be replaced every 2-3 years, its not because of the cooling its because after 2-3 years coolant loses its ability to keep the iron/alluminum parts from corroding and if you keep running it like that the alluminum basicly turns into powder.. Go to an autoparts store and buy one of those $5-10 antifreeze sucktion thingy.. I forgot the name.. Just ask the guy at the counter.. What it does is measures the amount of water/coolant in your system.. If you dont have enough coolant in the system the water will freeze if its cold out and if that happens ... well imagine a coke can in the freezer ... boom.. it will burst open. Coolant also lowers the boiling point of the water so if you have too much water then the coolant COULD boil.. If you have too much coolant tho the cooling system wont be able to cool the system as effectivly as it should.. Water cools down faster then coolant does.. So basicly these reason is why you should Keep a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water... It also depends if you live in a hot or cold area.. If you live in the desert then its better to have a 70% water 30% coolant mixture.. If you live in like alaska its better to have a 70% coolant and 30% water mixture.. Anyway I hope all this helps... Whatever you do tho, dont let the engine get above 220f.. If you do you risk blowing your headgasket and also possibly cracking the heads.. If that happens you are looking at an easy $1,000 in repairs.

I'm sure you'll find this sounding awful but the truth sometime hurts: Get your boyfriend to heck away from your car! He does not understand a cooling system! Before wasting your time or money, make an appointment to a trusted private mechanic or Ford dealership and ask for an inexpensive * cooling system pressure test which will find the source if an external or internal coolant leak. Ford, who made Mercury are notorious for blowing head-gaskets. The moron designers at Ford only circle each cylinder with four head-bolts instead of five or six as other manufacturers do. Make sure you fill the stone cold radiator to the top before you leave and the coolant recovery reservoir is at least 3/4 full. If there are no leaks go to the following steps: A 22 year old cooling system needs to be drained flushed and *cleaned. before doing anything below: #1, Always replace the thermostat and radiator pressure cap with factory Ford parts. #2. An empty cooling system should be filled 1/2 its total capacity using 100% pure antifreeze first. Fill the remaining empty space with grocery store distilled water. You 'll find the capacity of the cooling system is the specifications page of your glove compartment manual. #3.The radiator should be filled to the top when the engine is stone cold. It's best to jack or run the front wheel up on a ramp on the same side as the pressure cap when filling an empty radiator to help displace air in the cooling system. #4. The plastic coolant recovery reservoir should be removed and cleaned with Wisk, and hot water with a round household scrub brush till clean. #5. Fill it at least 3/4 full

First there are two kinds of coolant. A concentrate that needs 50% water with it and another one thats premixed. It could have been better if you bought the premixed, saving you the hassle of the 50/50 mixture. Less coolant would result to less time before it overheats and a little rusting may occur, more coolant would result to the metal parts of your cooling system like the cylinder head, water jackets etc, deteriorating at a faster rate compared to having the mixture right, because the chemical will eat the metal up in time. I don't see using pure coolant could make your engine run hotter because that chemical is supposed to stabilize temperature. Not to offend the others who answered this question. Just my two cents.

using straight antifreeze will not be as beneficial as one would think. the water is needed so that the heat in the block can freely flow into it a bit easier than to the coolant alone.

Yes, most definitely, antifreeze has less cooling capacity than water that's why you should use 50/50 mix.

It is intended to be mixed 50 / 50

Yes, make sure you use half coolant, half water or it will make ur car overheat!

Yes and it will actually freeze at a higher temperature than a mixture.
