It just seems to run out of power, electrical. It resets the electric windows, remote locking and radio code and then runs fine again a second later. Also the rev counter can be a bit jumpy if I am just idling the car. any idea what it might be.

First of all I don't have a clue what an astra is. Secondly, I wouldn't use a shotgun approach to trouble shooting, like "new battery needed." If you have voltmeter, check battery static,i.e., without the engine running, it should check at least 12.5+ volts. Now turn the engine on and run it at idle. The battery reading should be at least 14.5 plus or minus volts. Start from there. If you don't get these reading, then start replacing. If you don't have the simple voltmeter, go to your autoparts store,.

Buy a new battery after 4 or 5 years and remove the battery cables to clean the connectors with a wire brush as shown in the battery replacement video below (every year or so).
you could have a short somewhere also take your feul pipe off and get an air line and clean it incase theres dirt in it that might. or change your condenser hope that helps
