i have a 1999 mercury cougar that cut off on me when i was driving on the hwy. come to find out a 20am p fuse in the fuse box in the engine compartment had blown out. my mechanic replaced the 20amp fuse with a 40amp fuse.i test drove the car and now the gear wont shift from 1st to 2nd.the rpm needle goes up, but the mileage needle stays at 0. .should i be looking forward to a transmission replacement? or was switching the amps up the cause of this problem? please understand i didn't experience any transmission problems until this fuse blew out. im not exactly sold on the idea of replacing a smaller fuse amp with a larger fuse amp cause i fear it will catch on fire. i just need some good advice. and just so u know i purchased this car on april 21 2011.
