So I'm trying to find a car for my fiance. I found a 97 taurus for $450 but it needs a motor mount? Is this an expensive part and is it a major deal? (Aka is the car going to blow up on the way to the shop?)

No it wont blow up you may have vibration depending on how bad it is. Definatly a part that you want to fix as it holds the motor in the car. Shouldnt be too expensive at all. I would say $100 at the most.

A fuse isnt a big deal at all, cheap and it just snaps in. I am sure that autozone can find it, sometimes the fuse box door will have a diagram telling you what fuses are.

You can typically find motor mounts for around $15-50 for that year taurus. However, there is no way of knowing if this is all the car needs. You should NOT drive it with a bad motor mount as you can risk damaging the engine further or even messing up the transmission. I would pay the extra money to have the car checked by a certified mechanic just to verify that that is the only problem as well. You don't want to get sucked into a money pit.

Auto Zone, Advance Auto or Pep Boys should be able to help you with the fuse issue.

Motor mounts are $20 to $50 or so.

Probably you don't "have to" get a motor mount for a 1997 Ford Taurus, because probably it is made to keep the engine from moving too much even if the rubber is broken.

On some cars, motor mounts could separate entirely, causing the engine to literally tip over, thereby stretching the accelerator linkage and causing the car to speed uncontrollably.

Probably your broken motor mount merely causes a slight noise (as the engine lifts upon rapid acceleration) and nothing more.

Auto Zone can show you where your fuse box is.

I'd be very wary of buying a Taurus particularly if it has allot of miles and the transmission hasn't been replaced or rebuilt as of yet. The fuse that's blown for the speedometer, just maybe your vehicle speed sensor so I would check that first before repairing the motor mount. The mount itself is a hydraulic fluid filled type and can be pricey, the labor to replace it is usually 1-3 hours depending on which one it is that needs replacing and the honesty and experience of the shop performing the repair. Good luck and hope this helps.

Which motor mount. There are two of them and they are hydraulic type mounts. They are located on the passenger side front and rear of the motor. The transmission mount is located on the driver side front. The motor mounts are about $60 for one and $90 for the other. The transmission mount is a little cheaper. How does she know its a fuse for the speedometer if she doesnt know where it goes? How many miles?

not a big deal creates a vibration and loss of torque due to motor shifting but it will make it to the shop.

and the fuse is simple its usually either on the side of the dash when you open the door or around the center console under the dash but yes auto zone can show you

that relies upon on the vehicle, the cost of the engine mount, and the exertions value. the engine mounts on my sixty 4 falcon are much less costly and basic to change. the mounts on my acquaintances toyota camry are greater costly and harder to change.
