I am a retired construction equipment dealership exec and now an income tax preparer during the tax season. I've noticed heavy-duty diesel mechanics/techs for construction equipment tend to make around $60,000 per year in Texas (Caterpillar, Johh Deere, Case) plus are routinely furnished a service truck, uniforms, and a laptop computer which is necessary to work on big diesel engine contruction equipment now days (you must be good in computer skills). Truck diesel mechanics tend to make less. Surprisingly, Harley-Davidson dealership mechanics seem to make the most money. Although not diesel, it's not unusual to see to see a well qualified and schooled 22 yr old Harley mechanic making $60K while a recent 4 year grad of a college business school starting out at $27-$30K in Texas.

Petrol is sold by the litre here in the UK and virtually every filling station is self sevice - so you have to do it yourself - present price is around 94.9p (say $2) per litre for RON95 - higher octanes are a bit more expensive. All accept credit/debit cards some at the pump but most with the cashier. **
