Question:
Do the oxygen sensor control the radiator fan?

I have a Saturn SC2 year 1999, I want to know if the oxygen sensor (o2 sensor) controls or is involved in the control of the radiator fan....

The radiator fan wasn't working at all, I just replaced the coolant temperature sensor and the the fan at least works but still not quite right, I see it running a bit after a few seconds after I just start the car... then later on it seems to run for ages and the radiator fan still doesn't work.... then later on driving a bit I can hear the radiator fan running so I don't get it... it seems to be working erratically... so I want to know if the oxygen sensor is involved in the running of the radiator fan, I see that the plug cable seems to be connecting with the fan though.....

From my understanding i dont believe the oxygen sensor sends any signals to the fan.oxygen sensor sends signals to ecu which controls air intake and fuel output.make sure all the wiring looks good.part of the fan wire might be starting to fray. The fan might need replaced too.id start with those.replace the fuse as well.sometimes a fuse looks good but actually is bad.

No. Never did. The oxygen sensor (or sensors) is only to tell the computer how well the fuel mixture adjustment is regulated. The wire for the cooling fan may be in the same wire harness segment as the oxygen sensor, but that is as close as they get to each other.

There is one or more COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSORS or switches that are used for various purposes, depending on your particular vehicle.

Some only have one, that tells you if it overheats or not.

Some have two, one to control the fan turning on and off, and the other to tell the car's computer what the actual temperature of the engine is, and it will also turn on the over heat warning light if it needs to.

Some have more, for a temperature gauge, the computer , the cooling fan, and what ever else.

Some cars will turn the cooling fan on if the air conditioner is running, to increase it's efficiency.

If the air conditioner doesn't work, then the fan won't come on.

no ! the 02 sensor is for fuel, not the cooling system ! the 02 sensor monitors the exhaust stream and sends a message back to the computer so it can regulate the fuel mixture ! the fan will stay running for awhile after you shut the car off until it cools down ! did you check the fan relay ?

There is a fan relay. You may what to check if electric gets to the fan when it suppose to.

And like GTO said, the O2 sensor has nothing to do with the cooling system.

pretty sure the radiator fan only comes on when you get to a high enough temperature otherwise isn't needed just watch your engine temp gauges if there fine I wouldn't worry o2 sensor shouldn't have anything to do with it

the o2 sensor has nothing to do with the cooling system.
