Hi,

Please bear with me as i am female lol , i have a question about my bmw mini 2002 , the car has been great but recently i feel it is not idling the same as it did, i suppose this could just be me! i know the revs are higher when the car is heating so thats fine, its when it get to temp and your sitting at lights for example the engine changes tone if that makes sense, the rev counter needle moves slightly when it does this, it it not revving up and down or anything i just don't think it did this before, is this normal?

The car was last serviced in december and had all new filters and spark plugs, it has only been the last month i have noticed this.

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks for any help

I wouldn't go wasting my money on Redex or any other potions....

If the car is mainly used in towns it might benefit from a good long blast up a motorway, but a less than stable idle could be a fault with the ECU, MAF sensor or the electronic throttle if it's got one.

It could only be a matter of stop using supermarket petrol and add a dose of Redex to a full tank of petrol, especially if the car does not get many long runs. Redex is simply a strong dose of the cleaning additives in petrol, which are allegedly at a lower level in non-company petrol, which also gives less mpg.

idles too low and sometimes too high dear ? it could be the idle air control sensor needs to be cleaned or the throttle body needs to be cleaned out ! it,s suppose to idle fast until the engine gets to a certain temperature then it,s suppose to idle down !
