I own a 97 Tahoe 4wd with a 5.7L V8 vortec engine. I live in northern WI and we get some pretty gruesome winters here. I now have on is some Yokohoma Parada type x tires and they did not do very well in the winter here. I want something that is going to be great on the off road and still be descent on the freeway. Also to have that tough look to it if you know what i mean.

I'll bet you didn't notice that the Nitto Trail Grabbers and BF Goodrich T/A KO have no UTQG wear rating numbers. Neither do any dedicated snow tires. All this means is these tires will wear out very quickly particularly on dry pavement in the Summer. Either tire will be garbage after 20,000 miles!

You have two choices: Adjust your tire brand selection or buy a set of steel wheels and run the big bar tires in the winter only.

Take a look at Nokian Tires. There should be many dealers in Wisconsin. Nokian makes Summer, all season and Winter tires. Their Winter tires are the best in the world, bar none! They're made in Finland and northern Russia where they have a little more snow experience than we do.

I would like to congratulate the people in Port Washington Wisconsin, home of the Allen Edmonds Shoe Factory. As far as I'm concerned these are the best, most comfortable, longest wearing, highest quality shoes I have ever owned in my life! No adjectives can possibly describe what great products these fine people make.

Jerry,

I am not surprised that the Yoko Pradara's are not doing the job in WI winters, though a good tire it is not engineered to deal with snow. So you have 20" aftermarket rims? What size tires are you running? 265/50-20 perhaps? Or maybe 285/50-20? Knowing would help narrow your choices. Without knowing your specific size I would suggest the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza or Michelin Latitude Tour HP. Or if you are willing to go way wide with a 305/50R20 sized tire look at the Grabber AT 2.

None of the above.

Try General Grabber AT2's which are severe winter rated
