I want to measure the bearings using a micrometer with the engine still in the car and just dropping the oil pan...is it possible? Will i have enough space to fit the micrometer to take measurements?

I know i could you a plastigauge but that is not an option because there are none where i live and i cant order them as it would take time to arrive and i dont have enough time.

I'm surprised no one here knows what plastigage is!

Ok just do the rods if anything went awry in the engine the rods will suffer much more than the mains.

Also if the oil pressure is good that is a big positive.

You can measure the connecting rods, but the mains is another story. I am not sure if you can find a measuring device that can reach to a 1/2 exposed main bearing journal... but it would be great if you could find one. A traditional micrometer can't reach in there far enough to get an accurate reading while the crank is still in place.

Rods yes, but the mains, no, unless the crank is removed, because the crank is bedded down into the block so you can't get a mic around the diameter of the journal. Inspect the bearings for scoring and also the crank journals, cause if that's there you know you have considerable wear. If they're clean and smooth, and your oil pressure was okay before the disassembly, then you can trust there's not much wear.
