Hi there, I just bought a 2016 suburban with a black interior and I hate it. I want to paint it yellow. The seats. The dash. The steering wheel. Everything. My only issue is if it's legal or not.

This question is illegal! You have the right to paint your own car!

Your car, do it if you want. However, you must be sur eyou want to keep it for a long time, becuae you will make it virtually unsaleable. I've only once been in a car with a yellow interior, (a Lambo at a track day). It looked awful although it was very dirty.

Depends on the law where you are. Which country or state etc do you live in?

It might be bad to paint the seats, you might ruin the covering. Get advice about anything soft.

It is perfectly legal.

You can do it with out the heavy hand of the law grabbing your collar.

But you are going to make your car look like a complete mess and utterly trash the value down to a big fat zero!

It is legal, but MOST of the interior can't be painted effectively.

It is legal but I think a dumb idea.

Not illegal, but stupid. There's not a paint you could buy that would stand up to the flexing of the seat. Getting anything to stick to the steering wheel and not have it rub off would be extremely difficult. Buy seat and steering wheel covers.

Auto stores sell fabric paint that is specialized for dashes, carpets, panels, ect. This should be something you might want to look into. If you cant find the color you want, I'm sure you could find it online.

Illegal no at least not in the USA. Where do you live? In America you can paint your tires or anything else you want on your car, house etc as long as you own it. Strange question.

Totally legal, though may cause issues if the car is on finance still..... as well as problems with the insurance company if you don't declare it + also if you make such a hash of it that it causes you to have issues gripping the controls properly.

Dash paint... I remember seeing products by Eastwood co. years ago for changing the dash color, as well as one for changing/restoring the color of vinyl seats.

https://www.eastwood.com/paints/interior-dyes.html

Tuning / Styling companies also do a selection of film products for improving the interior, just like doing a vinyl wrap on the exterior.... "Folia-Tec" is the one I've seen offered through UK Tuning / Race Parts shop "Demon Tweeks" since way back in the mid/late 1990's.

You can also buy covers for the seats of course (make sure it's airbag compatible for the side-airbags).

I remember seeing a couple of videos on the ChrisFix channel on YouTube, with one showing how to retrim a steering wheel with leather once the old stuff is worn out. I think there was also one on choosing race seats, and how to re-cover a seat.

You can find kits on Ebay for re-covering your steering wheel + also replacement door trim panels.

You could paint the color of your car's interior purple if you want to, and it would be legal. The law doesn't care what color the interior of your car is.

You can't "paint" your car's seats. You would have to have them reupholstered in the color of your choice.

If you are paying off a loan it would be foolish.

Otherwise, go right ahead and spray the whole thing TROLL YELLOW.

You can spray the entire interior with pigshit if you like. There’s no law against it.

As long as you can still safely operate the car, see out of the windows, and use the seatbelts (where mandated) then do as you wish.

Your $40 of paint should knock about $15,000 off the value of your vehicle.

Legal, yes.  Absolutely stupid, yes.

Anything is legal, if there isn't a law against it.

You cannot legally paint your window glass.

You can legally paint your mirror, but not all of the outside mirrors.

You can legally paint your dashboard so that you cannot see how fast you are going.

Yes it is legal, but I suggest leaving some of the black, your interior will look awful if it's all yellow.
