Question:
Need help with Jeep Grand Cherokee?
2011-10-30 11:45:55 UTC
I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I bought it about a month ago at 65,000 miles, It's now at 68 and change. Everything runs fine, It's been taken care of by the previous owner, and myself. I parked the car Friday afternoon and it sat untill Sunday afternoon when I needed to move it. Over the weekend it snowed (I live in NYC) it got down to about 38 degrees. I got into the car, and it started up perfectly...However I noticed the "check engine light" remained illuminated. Now this is a first for me in this car...Could the light coming on have anything to do with the snow and cold weather? Sounds stupid I know...And what should I do about it? I need it Monday morning to get to school a 70 mile round trip, I don't want to get stuck somewhere... Please help!

I disagree with the previous answer. I would not say that it is no big deal when your check engine light comes on. If at all possible get the codes read as soon as possible. Most part stores and even some local shops will check them for free. I do agree that it might not be something dire but at least this way you know for sure what the issue is. With driving so far it is far better know for sure than hitchiking home. Also keep in mind that the dominoe affect is definitely accurate in vehicle maintenance. Don't let a small problem now go unfixed and create a bigger problem later. I see it A LOT.

The early cherokee or larardo are specifically 6 cylinders and interior they extremely undemanding without to many recommendations, yet a grand cherokee constrained have v8 engines and are totally optioned with each thing electric powered in there. Im uncertain on the subject of the fee selection the place your at yet in australia a 2000 form grand cherokee constrained will retail 2d hand for around 9 to 12000 and the larardo are around 7 to ten thousand. The 4.7 jeep v8 engine does have a sludgeing difficulty the place if its not provider VERY generally they get a carbon enhance interior the engine and it may block oil gallerys interior which leaves inner moving areas ravenous for oil and then the consequence is a spun bearing or a ceased engine that's quite severe priced. A hyundai santa fe is somewhat a low fee and nasty 4 wheel force , definite they're great till the attain around 90000km's or 56000 miles and then they start giving lots of engine and suspension issues. Out of the two motor vehicle i could defiantly pass with a 2000 onwards grand cherokee constrained they're the suited fee for funds and that they're going to in no way provide you any issues in the event that they're properly appeared after.

Don't worry about it.

Your Jeep is perfectly safe to drive and won't cause you any running or starting problems due to the light.

The light is probably on regarding a small problem with your emissions system.

Get your codes read at your earliest convenience and then start your diagnosis by testing any components that are indicated by the codes.

You can find the test procedures online or just re-post your concern and let us know what you need to test and we can help.

Best of luck.

that light could be on for a ton of reasons. the easiest thing to check is make sure the gas cap is on tight. If that doesn't do it then have the codes read and see whats' up. Mine is on due to a 02 sensor being bad and has been on for 2 years.
