Have 5 bottles on hand. Put in three and start the engine and watch the oil light go off, then shut the engine off. Check the dipstick. If you don't see oil on it put in another quart and recheck the stick. Use the dipstick to tell how much oil is needed to fil to the full mark on the dipstick.

You did not specify the type of buick.. generally about 4-5 quarts. You can check on autozone.com by putting your information in then going to "MY ZONE" and hit vehicle repair guides then specifications and internal engine and it will show it there

properly i might drain the outdated gas, replace the oil and gas and oil filters . the knock ..is it interior the backside end like a rod.. is it a stressful tick .. I even have see engines set and the lifters leak down and could be run sever hours to get to pump back up.. being American vehicles equipped for the final 20 12 months have hydraulic lifters It did a similar element ..I have been given and it had set for a 12 months and a 0.5. as i drove it the knock went away.. that became 80 ,000 miles in the past.. so it basically may be a lifter as in my case. in case you have solid oil rigidity . i might basically centers it out and rigidity it .
