I just had a tune up at pep boys a week ago and now my check engine light is on. I had a diagnostic test when I got the tune up, and it cost me $89 for the test. I've heard that Autozone and Napa Auto do free diagnostic tests, only this service is not available in CA for auto zone, and I'm trying to research local Napas now. I don't want to go back to pep boys, I have a little bit of a beef with them from last time. Does anyone know of any place in the san fernando valley that offers free engine diagnostic test?

Mad Jack is totally correct. Also, you have the choice to buy your own scanner and read the codes yourself, if you feel comfortable doing so.

Most major automotive parts stores will extract the diagnostic codes for free.

Suggestion. Save some time and chasing around. Use the telephone book and your phone instead. Call some of the major automotive parts stores in your area and see which ones will do this for free.

You are only wasting your time trying to find a parts store that will do this for free by using Yahoo Answers. Sometimes, Yahoo Answers is not the best source of information. Especially if the subject pertains to your local area.

Autozone will do it if they've the diagnostic code reader. In the event that they do not need one they wont scan it. Are attempting napa, oreillys, or carquest. Any person it city is definite to have one for free. And i'd try autozone at a further time. They get these idiots off the avenue who think cars take blinker fluid and muffler bearings to sell constituents and they dont fully grasp what most men and women are speakme about.
