How do you use Aircraft Remover (Paint Stripper)? (10PTS)?

I need to strip a significant amount of paint off the hood of my car, and I have purchased aircraft remover to accomplish that.

What kind of consistency is this product? Liquid, Gel, Foam, etc.?

How should I get it onto the hood of my car?

What do I use to wipe it off after it sets?

If I don't have anything to wipe it off with tonight, would it be ok to leave it overnight until the morning? What would happen if I did that?

THANKS! 10pts to the Best Answer!

it sprays out the can like brake clean does it comes out of the can like a bubbly liquid it only takes a few minutes to activate. you will need a medium sized putty knife some shop towels eye protection and a good set of gloves, several thick trash bags put the trash bags inside each other. dont let it sit overnight it will actually start eating the metal. spray it on then let it sit 15 minutes or so use your putty knife with your gloves on of course and go to town use eye protection this stuff is stronger than hydrofloric acid good luck and ill take your 10 points kudo points or real points

I hope you got a really good deal on that aircraft paint remover. I would recommend that you reconsider using it at all.

That stuff is the nastiest and most toxic stuff there is and you don't really need to use that for a car.

The reason this stuff is so toxic is that it must be able to remove the etching primer that's used on aircraft aluminum.

It usually comes in a gel form and is painted on with a brush.

Do not apply that stuff if you can't follow through and remove it right away. If you don't remove it and allow it to evaporate, the paint will dry all curdled and be a real mess to remove.

You'll have to wear eye and skin protection at all times and it's very highly recommended that you either use that stuff outside or have a positive pressure respirator so you can breathe while working with it. The fumes are extremely toxic, corrosive and flammable.

If you have an area where you can somehow contain the waste, the best way to remove it is with a pressure washer.

Don't allow any of it to come in contact with your exposed skin as it will burn and it's very unpleasant.

How I do it. Do it outside.Remove hood from car, and sit on saw horses, sitting on top of a sheet of plastic garbage bags or visqueen. (painters plastic sheets)

Using eye and skin protection, apply with a brush. Let it sit for approx 15 minutes. Reapplying to any dry spots or places the paint didn't lift.

Using a PLASTIC scraper (metal one can gouge the metal) scrape off the remover onto the sheet of plastic underneath.

Hose down the hood with lots of fresh water and a rag. Dry with a towel. Any left over spots can be spot treated. Followed by the rinse and dry again. Careful on the edges so it doesn't seep under the hood.

Give it a good wash with soapy water. Dry, sand with 320, and prime. I like an etching primer as it really bites int the metal, and help with corrosion. Fix any nicks/chips/scratches, light sanding, prime with regular primer, wet sand with 600 wet sand paper, and rinse again. Wipe with wax and grease remover, tack rag it and it's ready for paint.
