Hi, i think my accelerator pedal may be sticking a bit. I have foudn that when i change gear the revs go up a bit but then seem to stay high for a few seconds before dropping back down. Today when i was driving i decided each time i changed gear i stuck my foot under the accelorator pedal and lifted it and i found the revs dropped alot quicker rather than seem to stay high for a few seconds. Coudl this mean the pedal is sticking a bit?

if so is this an expensive repair? ive already spent hundreds on the car in the last week replacing clutch, timing belt and wheel bearings so id ideally not like to spend much more but i would think this would be costing me petrol if it is sticking?

My Car is a Ford Fiesta 1.25 Freestyle, 2002, Zetec SE engine.

Thanks

Whether or not is its fly by wire, the pedal still needs to move and as Jessica suggests it's worth making sure it can pivot and return freely before you do anything else. Problems like this can occur with the carpet or dirt/ grit etc. stopping it returning freely

02 model can be a accelerator cable type. If in case it is, you can try to remove the cable from the servo. Put some oil on the cable ( while putting oil you can also move it so that the oil will lubricrate the cable inside ). If in case it is not a cable type, there is no way but to visit the shop to adjust your accelerator by the use of computer. I hope the first one will solve your problem, it is easy and free. The worse will be replacing the cable with the new one.Good day!

Hi Christopher

the accelerator pedal on your car could be a fly by wire as Ford cars went over to this method some time ago. so it is not a simple thing to fix so a visit to a Ford dealer for a new spare part is required.

Sounds like you just have to oil the mechanism underneath a bit. And check for dust and dirt clinging to the elements below the pedal.

Is there a chance you are putting pressure on the accelerator while changing gears.

It's likely a stiff throttle cable.
