The dash Battery - Alternator warning light is triggered common collector (ground) by a 13 volt reverse polarity zeener diode. If the vehicle voltage is good on a volt meter while the warning light is on, you may have an issue with the plastic dash speedometer cluster bulb electrical bulb back plane. I have seen many dash clusters that have corroded back planes causing this, unfortunately you would have to pull the cluster to check it. There is a hard flexible plastic card on the back of the cluster with copper traces sandwiched in the card that make contact with the warning bulb bayonet holders, check for green corrosion on that back plane shorting the copper traces. This happens more then most would know, and is usually caused by leaving the window open in the rain and getting the cluster wet.

You probably bought a rebuilt alternator not a new one. Rebuilt alternators can fail right out of the box. I know mechanics that have gotten 3 bad ones in a row!

Go to an auto parts store and have them test the battery and alternator for you. it's a free service they offer.

EVERY car has a fuse between the alternator and the battery seems yours is blown..... Some idiots don't seem to know.....

Not a battery light. It's a charging system light. Have the alternator tested.

The battery light means it's not getting a charge. Use a multi meter and check the battery with the engine running. It should show 14.6 volts. If not it's the alternator and/or voltage regulator.

Ck the ground, where it connects to the motor/frame coming off of the batty. Just because a alternator is new to you, does not mean its good.... When they rebuild one, they only fix whats wrong with it, they dont rebuild the whole thing. Buy a new one when one has to be replaced.

GO BY A AUTO PARTS AND HAVE THEM CK. THE BATTY/ALT. THEY WILL DO IT FOR FREE.

Check your alternator; the battery only starts the car and the alternator powers it once it's running. If there is an issue with the alternator the battery light will come on. If other things stop working or shut on and off that's also a sign.. like the radio or other power things. Windows etc..

The "battery" light means:

The charging system is not working.

This involves the alternator, voltage regulator, ignition switch, wiring, fuse, fused link, battery light; maybe the PCM and a battery temperature sensor.

With the engine idling and the headlights on, the battery voltage should be around 14.4 volts. WHAT is it? That means measure it with a voltmeter and tell us.

Chrysler Corp. has some of its voltage regulators in the PCM (the powertrain control module, the computer).

If that's where yours is, and it's defective, you need to replace your "computer", or else install an external voltage regulator and rewire the circuit.

There may also be a battery temperature sensor near the battery.
