My check engine light was on. We had the codes read and fixed what supposedly needed to be fixed. Reset the codes and I drove a good 40 miles at at least 45 mph and the light did not come back on. Does this mean there is a good chance it will NOT come back on ?

The light should not come on for the same concern if it was repaired properly. But it could come back on if another component fails. That's what it's supposed to do.

since the problem was fixed it is a great chance it wont return. if it comes back then re-read the code and see what it says. some people ignore the check engine light and figure its a small deal, while others dont like seeing it there cause an engine to them is a big deal. but its always fixable and you have driven good miles, i doubt it will come back unless a new problem comes up. however if the problem wasnt fixed it stays off once the code is reset and later comes back until the problem is fixed.

It a good chance it won't come back on if you fix the problem that cause the code to trigger

The check engine light is because all check engine light codes are caused by components that affect emissions. It's not actually an engine problem, it's a problem with either your O2 sensor, MAF sensor, fuel/air ratio, pyrometer, or exhaust.

The system was built because the EPA decided people were not concerned enough with emissions, and if people thought they had an engine problem they would get it fixed, but if they knew it was a simple emissions problem they would let it go.
