would a Purolator pure ONE oil filter with part number PL24651 fit a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee?

the reason I ask is because according to advance auto parts they say my jeep needs an oil filter with the part number PL14670.. both PL24651 and PL14670 look the same

there's probably a slight difference in threading or size...why don't you just get the one they tell you to, when you know for certain that will work.
most, if not all, oil filters look the same

They may look the same outwardly but the different part numbers makes it obvious that they are not the same inwardly, such as the bypass valve pressure rating, the oil flow rate, and the thread size and whether the thread size is non-metric or metric. If the lubrication system was exactly the same in all engines then the filter specs would be the same and the filters would be the same. But they are not. The filter specs are unique to the lubrication demands of each engine and you would be well advised to use the part number which is listed for your vehicle and engine.

PL14670 is the recommended filter for your Jeep with either engine.
3 things are needed for a petrol motor to run. Fuel, compression, and electrical spark to the plugs. The fuel's been checked. I doubt you've lost compression, so that leaves spark, which has been found to be missing. This can be either from a bad coil, or 12v power to the coil. First job is to determine if there is 12v power to the positive low tension lead to the coil. If there is, it's the coil or distributor is faulty. If there's not, it's the fuse, coil relay, or the computer.

According to Purolators website specifications, they have different threads so the 651 will NOT fit the same engine as a 670.

you need a cross reference book or look on the back of the oil filter box. it will tell you what it replaces.
