I have a 95 chevy truck and it has a alot of miles 200000 plus so going to drop a new motor in and since I do some towing thought about just droping in a 454 out of a 95. So what all will I have to change and will it work? I figure I will need to swap ecm and redo the exhaust but what else am I over looking?

What AREN'T you overlooking?!? Front suspension & bushings (also the springs, ctrl arms, frame members etc), front brake hardware (including old master cylinder and the F/R Proportioning valve) and when it's all assembled it will need alignment. The old fuel pump will have inadequate pressure/volume at full throttle, and without a posi-traction rear axle you will spin the rear wheel a lot when under heavy load or acceleration. The correct rear springs can help the rear wheel spin problem. In California that also means a trip to the SMOG Referee for a permanent variance sticker for future emissions tests.

No engine swap is genuinely common, yet with adequate time, attempt, money, and criminal permission, something is a minimum of achieveable. after all there have been production facility 454s available in S-10 automobiles in California. usually, in case you will do an engine swap of a distinctive than unique engine you first would desire to be someplace it extremely is criminal. In California it extremely is many times a no-pass proposition. it extremely is customary information purely: You not purely would desire to alter over the engine, yet in all possibility the transmission, and pc, and wiring harness(es), and according to possibility even the in-tank gasoline pump. then you would would desire to contain the gasoline strains and smog plumbing, too. After which you nay would desire to apply more desirable front springs, shocks, and sway bar for the further weight of the engine. in case you opt to pass to all that attempt and fee you have a greater driveable truck, with better skill and towing potential, that incredibly can consume some gas.

you will need to beef up the front suspension. that engine is a lot heavier than a 350. You'll need a different transmission too, if you have the 1500 pickup. It'll need to be a TH350 or TH 400 to handle that torque.

a lot of the cars in that year range were mated with specific transmission types, I highly suggest you get the transmission that came with the 454, just so you know what you have is going to work properly good luck

Jon brought up the best points, Need to beef up suspension and transmission, also if you swap transmissions, will you existing driveshaft fit properly? Both overall length and spline count .
