Question:
Disarming Clifford Alarm on 98 Ford Taurus...?

I have a 98 Ford Taurus that came with a Clifford alarm system. My car won't start. The problem is that the security module's wires have slowly. through the years. disconnected. Now the module is sitting on my floor board separated from the four wires that are coming out from under the dash (the module looks like a headphone jack and the key is first inserted into the module jack first before I can use the ignition and start the car).

Since the module is now not connected, there is no way to use the key and, thus, start the engine. What can I do to disable this system? I just want to start the car. I don't really care about the module anymore or the security feature since the car is old. Can anyone help me???

Thanks all! :)

I already told you in your last post, an alarm is nothing more than a starter interrupter.

Put your starter wires back together.

Sorry, I thought you were the same person that asked a similar question. On the 4 wire system most likely you have a starter interrupt system. Of the 4 wires one should be 12 volt positive, 1 should be 12 volt negative (ground) the remaining two wire should be your starter interrupt wires.

Trace the wires back to your ignition switch harness your starter wire is red/ light blue (+), trace to where the starter wire is cut & spliced into the remaining wires.

Then its just a matter of putting your red/light blue starter wire back together. If everything else checks out the car should start.

A belt is slipping. It's not uncommon for them to initially squeal more on startup. Could be the belt is cold and less sticky, could be something the belt drives is stiffer when cold - like a power steering pump pumping cold fluid is harder than pumping warm fluid. So, do you just need to tighten the belt? Or do you need a new belt? Or is something that the belt drives slowly failing? Maybe the mechanics here will help you figure it out. You could start with a little belt tightening. Often you just loosen a bolt on the alternator and move it a bit and tighten the bolt.

Check with a local lock smith that has installed alarm systems. If your system is like mine (different brand) it has a ignition cut off system, and a valet parking switch that must be removed, no ignition no start.

Dont know what a clifford alarm is, but most repair shops or car audio places can removeafter market alarms for fairly cheap. We charge an hours labor in our shop.

SKULL IS CORRECT..........2 WIRES NEG AND POS......REMAINING 2 WIRES STARTER INTERRUPTER.

USE A TEST LIGHT AND FIND THE POS AND NEG WIRES FIRST, THEN CAP THEM OFF FOR SAFETY REASONS.

THE NEXT 2 REMAINING WIRES WILL BE FOR THE STARTER AND ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TIE THEM TOGETHER OR BETTER LET USE A BUTT CONNECTOR AND SHRINK TUBING.

Isn't Clofford a big red dog? Sorry, I just couldn't resist. Good luck.
