Car ignition problem?

I recently traded my motorcycle for a 2003 Pontiac Grand prix, but I had some issues with the ignition today that I didn't have yesterday when I got it.
Basically, the switch will not turn all the way back to the off position. The key slides freely in and out of the ignition as if the cylinder pins arent there, so i don't know if that might be part of the problem. On top of this, the car will start by just turning the ignition switch without the key even in it. I can turn it back so that the car turns off but it wont turn all the way back, and the car beeps when I open the door as if the key is still in. Everything seems to be off, but the gear indicator light on the dash remains on.
My question is, will the little gear indicator light drain my battery, or would some of the car's systems drain the battery as well because they may still be drawing power without the ignition being fully off?
And what recourse do I have in repairing it?
Would a locksmith be able to take care of it, or would the ignition key cylinder need to be replaced?

I've tried turning the wheel and wiggling the key in the ignition and that hasn't helped

Get the ignition unit in the steering wheel replaced. Yes it can drain the battery and leave you with just enough in the morning for a click-click-click starter. It is not the key and lubing it is not going to work. Someone, car thief possible, jammed it good. Probably with a screw driver.

just replace the ign switch. I would disconnect the batt while it sets it will drain the battery

Try spraying some teflon in the key hole.
