Question:
99 surburban won't start?

have a 99 surburban ran great/started fine/went down the hwy 70mph without missing a beat...turned off the engine and unloaded. Got back in and turned over the key and "nothing"..the starter didn't even try to engage. There was the audible "click" but no turn over for the engine.
We thought it needed a new starter and went out to get one...went back to the vehicle a few hours later and it started right up??? Drove fine for another week ..started fine this morning..drove fine..shut it down and it wouldn't start again??? Put in new starter and it wouldn't start/engine wouldn't turn over. Tried jumping battery..wouldn't start...seems like there is power in battery/power windows work/radio plays etc..
so what could cause the surburan to run great and then not start out of the blue...then run great and now won't turn over??
It was dry outside/nothing got wet/engine ran fine/no misses/doesn't need new sparkplug etc...what is your best guess at to what is happening here?

Check your negative battery cable, if you have a DVM test from battery post to cable ground and from cable end to end, replace cable.

So you're a graduate of the Parts Replacement School of Diagnostics, right?

Did you even bother to check for voltage at the starter solenoid when the key is turned to start?

Because this is a dead ringer symptom of a bad IGNITION Switch, not a bad starter.

And late '90's GM products are known for bad IGN switches.

Had you checked the voltage at the starter solenoid, you would have seen it wasn't getting any.

Somewhat like my car before as I check the cable in it I found dirt oil turns to not connected directly to the source that is why it start and it will shut it down after. Suggestion is to clean up the connection belt towards battery.
