I'm a bit perplex removing this Yale door knob. There're no screws on the inside knob and no slot nor retaining screw. I see a little tab that looks like it's part of the interior ring. I tried pushing or pulling on the ring but still can't get the door knob out. Can someone help? Do I need to have the key in as part of of the disassembling process? I was expecting to eventually see two long interior bolts that hold the outside and inside piece together. Thanks.

I removed a really difficult 1951 vintage knob yesterday. I had to unscrew the flanges on both sides of the door to see what was there. There were no screws. The flanges just twisted counter clockwise, but it took some ingenuity and fiddling to get them freed up. This let me see what was under the flanges. On the shaft of the lock side of the set, there was a slot where I could insert a small screwdriver which released the lock side knob. Once I removed that knob, I was perplexed for quite a while. I finally tried pulling out a pin that I had noticed on the internal assembly on that same side. This released the latch assembly which I removed from the edge of the door. After the latch assembly was removed, I was able to remove the exterior door knob and internal shaft as one piece. It was quite a puzzle.

Of course the new door knob set required a larger diameter hole than the old set. I have hole saws, but it is extremely difficult to use a larger hole saw to increase the size of a pre-existing hole. I ultimately cut a hole in a pine board and clamped that board to the door with the hole centered over the smaller hole. This provided a jig to hold the hole saw in position while I drilled the larger hole.

Once the knob is out of the way in which and one can find the inside of the door appear for a retainer clip a few of them have them others don't any method pull the other knob it must come right out or you may have got to tap it with a hammer.

You have to insert a small screw driver into the hole where that little tab is and pry off the rosette(interior ring).

There are the screws.
