Question:
Replaced O2 sensor, still getting CEL--2008 Kia Spectra?

I was getting the check engine light code P0032, which was due to one of these possible causes:

- Faulty Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 1
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 1 harness is open shorted to ground
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 1 circuit fuse
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

Before I replaced the faulty O2 sensor, I disconnected the battery that way the computer could reset when I turned the car back on, with the new sensor in. Well I did this and when I turned the car on, no CEL, however, about 5 minutes on the road and I'm getting CEL again. This time the code read:

P2251

-Linear heated O2 sensor-bank 1, sensor 1 (HO2S11) reference ground circiut
Probable cause:

-Open or short circuit condition
- Poor electrical connection
- Failed HO2S11 (Bank 1 sensor 1)

It is worth noting I have driven the car about 100 miles and started about 30 times since replacing the O2 sensor, any ideas?

Thanks!

When you disconnected the old O2 sensor, did you happen to look inside the connector to see if it had black burn marks or other signs of a short circuit?

Did you check the ground wire to the O2 sensor? Like unbolt it, clean it with a wire brush and the surface it makes contact with to insure it made good ground.

Make sure the frame of the care is securely connected to the negative terminal of the battery. This could be a bad code that is pointing at the wrong device of course or it could be something really simple like a bad ground. Or it could be a poor connection in a wire harness plug. Those are not common but not unheard of.

This like a connector or wiring problem. Get a shop manual to get the wiring diagram and use an auto multimeter to check for reference voltage at the connector. If it's not getting reference voltage, it's not going to work.

And take Robert's advice for what it's worth. He gives the same answer to everyone regardless of what their original problem was.

Tis happens EVERY DAY on EVERYONES CARS! A TROUBLE CODE does NOT MEAN YOU NEED NEW PATS< t means SOMETING IS WRONG or going wrong! YOUR ENGIEN REQURIES ONLY FULLLY SYNTHETIC NEGINE OIL in it! CHEAP OIL Pullutes up your IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE and THROTTLE BODY< so the AIR/FUEL mixture goes OFF KILTER, and your O2 sensorrs "REACT" A CLEAN IAC will FINE TUNE your engien on the FLY and keep AIR in proepr proprtions as well! < It is a LOOP of electronics! he ELECTRONIC NOSE (O2sensor) ells teh COMPUTER to OPEN THE IAC vavle to add AIR to make it HAPPIEST! SEE? Use MOBIL ONE 0w-30 oil top PREVENT YOUR SENSORS from clgging up with COKE, sludge and VARNISH! CHEAP OI LCHANGE ruin EVEY ENGINE< and NO FACTORY uses VALVOLINE in it! It is JUNK OIL Made the CHEAPEST WAY POSSIBLE< gthe WAX REDCUTION METHOD! It haws sent MORE engien to the JUN KKYRAD than you can COUNT! GOOD LUCK
