Got new tires about 6 weeks ago, Kelly KS Ultra GT's, noticed a lot of tire noise and now I am noticing a steering wheel shimmy when I am driving at a speed of 55-65mph. Any speed higher or lower there is no shimmy. It is a 2006 Chevy Cobalt with 63,000 miles on it. Any ideas as to what is causing this? Thank you in advance.

Different makes and models of tires will have different noise levels, theres nothing wrong with the tires making noise, but the shimmy in the steering wheel might mean that you have thrown a wheel weight and might need to get the front tires rebalanced. If the shimmy was in the seat, it might mean you need to get the rear tires balanced.

I would also have a mechanic give you a full shaked down of the front end parts...

Take the car back to the place where you got your tires and have them check the balance and suspension parts too. It is unusuall to have a shake only at high speed and then only for 5 mph window. You may also have a defective tire. You could also ask them to place the tire on the back wheels and if the shake transfers then you either have a bad tire or a bent wheel.

It could be the rotors on the front end that may need to be machined to bring them into balance.
