If you replace the defective part on your vehicle that caused the light to come on the light should go off although a code will still be in the computer,s memory for a period of time. A hard fault is one that is present at the time the computer scans your system for normal operation and if it detects no faults it will not turn on the light even though there will be a stored code. A stored code will not turn the light on.

Just reset the computer yourself. Look for the ECC fuse and take it out for a minute, then put it back in.
If you can't find the ECC fuse, just unplug the battery for a whlie, and the computer will reset.
If you do not reset the computer, nothing bad will happen. Sometimes the codes will clear themselves after a few "turn on-drive-turn off" cicles on which the failure is not detected any more.
