so i bought a 89 s10 2.5, i was driving it home, i maybe got 6 or 8 miles, i was going up a hill, it started slowing down and i heard a loud bang, smoke filled the cab. i got out and water was running out from under the truck it also went ont the windshield. ive got a wrecker on the way to go get it. dad thinks it may be a water line, (because of all the water) im thinking the motor is blown what do you think? i dont know if it will start, i didnt try it. would a water line make a loud bang or do i got a blown motor

sounds like a hose blew to me. and stteam looks like smoke but disappates quickly if the motor blew it would be oil everywhere too. your dad is probably right you need to calm down and relax there is nothing you can do to change the outcome. I test drive vehicles for 40 minutes to one hour and I do a cold start test drive I start the engine after vehicle sits overnight and listen to it cold. It should start smooth and no smoke. Then I would take off like I stole it and try to get up to 55 mph before engine warms up good. any car you can get to freeway speeds first thing in the morning is likely a good car.

Next its off to the mechanic I plan ahead talk to my mechanic and spend 100 bucks. Since I check all the windows and doors and lights turn signals and all that stuff myself all I need is the mechanical inspection a wheels off brake front end and underbody inspection and a quick test drive from the mechanic. If any questions pop up here I can go more in depth with an engine diagnostic if necessary. Had you done even the 40 minute test drive do you think you would own that truck now? probably not. good luck but take a lot more time checking out your next used car and now you know why.

I would go to www.carcomplaints.com and see what info there is in those s10 the engines were not very good on the older ones and we transplanted v8 into them gas mileage was 20 and it was fast as hell good luck dont worry about it used cars do break ok? check and replace all hoses and heater hoses and thermostat which is what stuck in the first place. good luck

do not start the car or even try to just add water to radiator and see if you can find out where it is leaking from. if it is a blown eng. then there should be a crack in the block where water is coming out. also you might have lost a freeze plug as these will let lots of water out of your motor real quick . jus add water and have it up on jack stands to see where if you can spot the leak
