Hi,

My car is a 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe Automatic Transmission. It has barely 10,000 miles and I bought it in August 2006.

Last Saturday I started the car and I noticed that the "Check Engine" light came on... and the RPM was running at more than 2, and it was really accelerated when it was parked and I wasn't pressing on the gas pedal. The RPM when normal It should run at 0.7 or close to that, so I started driving it and it wouldn't run more than 20 miles an hour even when i was pressing the gas pedal and it would make like a clunk/thump noise when it tried to change gears..... so I turned it off and had it towed to the dealership. they told me it was nothing... but then it happened again Yesterday... same exact thing... so I turned off the engine and after 1 minute I turned on the car again and it was fine.... the "Check Engine" light its still on, I will take it to the dealership again... but has it happened to any of you??? any thoughts on this... its really weird.

It sounds like a possible TPS sensor or throttle issue and not a transmission issue.

Yes, this has happened to me for the THIRD TIME yesterday. I own a 2006 Honda Civic EX 4-door automatic. I have the same problem you've described. I brought it back to the dealership. 1st time: they reset to factory settings. 2nd time: they replaced it. Yesterday, the same thing f*ckin' happened again. I'm reading up on the Lemon laws to find out if I can just return the car and get a new one. This is frustrating and very time-consuming.

next time the CEL light comes on, don't goto the dealer, goto an Autozone and get the code reading tool and find out what the codes are the computer sees.

Post the codes here and we'll see what they are and go from there. the dealer obviously didn't even scan the computer because the codes should've stayed in memory, or they just erased them, turning off the light and sending you on the way.

dealer ship is a very bad move. try a trusted NAPA service center.

check engine lights will trigger for almost any reason. that's why scanning tools, help locate problems

Under warranty make them tell you and put it on service order, they will try to cheat you because if you bring it in three times with same problem you can file under the lemon law.

Take your back to the dealership for a full refund because

I think the car you bought is a lemon
