2004 Oldsmobile Alero....backing out of the driveway this morning and broke it off. The mirror is fine its just the plastic inside that broke. It was dangling by wires i guess, so my dad decided to cut it rather than let it dangle. He says is probably going to be a part of the replacement costs.
So was it stupid to cut it off?
And is there a rough estimate of how much it will cost to get it replaced and all that.

Thanks, please nothing rude i already feel stupid for breaking it off.

find one at the junkyard if you can it will be a lot cheaper, you can figure on $150 for a new mirror from the dealer and probably another $150 to install it.

Possibly. There is probably a connector nearby to unplug the wires. If the wires have been cut on the car side, the repair will be a little more trouble or $$. If the wires were cut on the mirror side of the connector, no problem. Oh, a bare wire touching a bare metal surface while power is applied could cause a blown fuse.

ebay will most likely be less than $100. Replacement of mirrors is typically just a couple screws and plugging in the cable, so you can replace it yourself

i would go to a junk yard and get one from there. it would me much much cheaper than getting a new one.
