Can someone give me an estimated cost of replacing tie rod ends on a 1995 Chevy Lumina Van? I am wondering if it is worth putting money in the van as it has 185,000 miles but I can't afford another vehicle right now. Opinions welcome.

you can call any parts store and get a price on part most prices of tie rods start a round 50 each but depends on who you cal to install 200 bucks maybe fair price if not id do it at home which not hard really would stil need to be re align and really it wil depend on the shape of van not the mileage of it my van has over 300,000 stil going just fine any shop could give you a price cal three shops wil have a better ideal

Jack the front of the vehicle up, remove the tires, crack the nut on the tie rod loose but don't move it. Take the tie rod joint loose at the steering knuckle and hit the knuckle with a hammer to pop the tie rod out. Install the new tie rod end screwing it on the tie rod up to the nut, tighten the tie rod to the knuckle and then tighten the nut on the tie rod to the tie rod end. If the alignment was OK before the job it will be very close if you did not move the large nut. Tie rod ends cost $20 to $40 and take around 20 minutes a side to replace. It's not a hard job for a back yard mechanic.

You can't safely drive the car with bad tie rods, as it may cause you to lose control or kill someone. Since you can't afford another vehicle, it's pretty cheap insurance, and under $150.00
