Question:
03 Jeep Grand Cherokee Check Engine Light Emission Problem?
Don't Worry About It

I bought this car about a year and a half ago. The light has now been a problem for a whole year. I have never had it stay off for more than a week after replacing/fixing something. I have done the following: replaced gas cap, replaced muffler, replaced emission pump, replaced hose vacuum under hood (because of smoke test showing leak), and also the PCV valve. These are in order of when I did them. After I replaced the vacuum the light stayed off just long enough so I could pass the emission tests. Literally came back on the day after. That was about 6 months ago. Most recently, I replaced the PCV valve because I thought I might as well since they are so cheap. This did not turn the light off, BUT for a couple of weeks, my car no longer made a beeping noise that it sometimes makes. This beeping noise only exists when the check engine light is on so it made me think this had something to do with the problem. I'm not really sure what to do next and don't have all the money in the world to spend because I am only 18.

Any advice or anything to help me figure out what to do next would be great. The light being on isn't affecting the performance of the car or anything but I just don't like seeing it on all the time and if it isn't going to cost a fortune would like to make it go out, other wise I can live with it until the next emissions test.

The first thing any mechanic would have checked for a gross leak after checking the gas cap is the carbon canister vent valve. This is an easy check using a vacuum gauge and a couple of vice grips. The carbon canister can also have leaks/cracks which show up as small leaks. Make sure the gas filler tube is round and free of rust and/or corrosion. Throwing parts at a vehicle is not the way to diagnose and repair them. You probably would have saved money just letting a professional diagnose and fix the problem.

has the motor vehicle been in an twist of destiny or had any aftermarket choose for component further which you recognize of? i accept as true with you, o2 sensor probable no longer, wiring subject extra suitable than probable. i doubt if this is the harness, extra like a quick someplace that would result the pcm subsequently placing the code. Now, only could make certain as properly to the headlight swap being became on, the quick( i assume that's a quick) is placing the code via effecting yet another choose for area, like in line with hazard the alternator a approach or the different. i think that has an inner huge-unfold (interior the alt.). i want you success in this one my buddy, choose for issues might properly be a nightmare as you recognize and is why shops fee $one hundred.00 hr. each so often to diagnose choose for issues. playstation : a minimum of once you reset, the easy maintains to be off so this is not a tough code, yet, which would be much less complicated to diagnose yet. probable extra costly to restoration.

Well, for a top of the line jeep GC Altitude to have these problems start at 40,000 miles and are not covered under warranty I will let the dang thing blow up and then maybe warranty will take care of it. I don't have time or money to be nickel and dime (d) to death.
